Why is my body absorbing one of my teeth?

I just went to the dentist and I have noticed pressure pain from one of my teeth. The xray showed a darkening halfway down the tooth and the dentist said my body was absorbing my tooth!!!! I'm wondering if I can stop it from getting worse by taking vitamins and minerals?
reply by Shelly ~ adminHi Sue, So sorry to hear that. It is alarming news and not what you were hoping or expecting to hear, I'm sure.
I'm not an expert on resorption, but I don't think vitamins will stop your tooth from being resorbed. I wish it was that easy.
Tooth resorption is not common and the cause is most often unknown.
The cases of resorption that I have seen only involve one tooth. It seems to be a random occurrence and doesn't mean your other teeth are going to start resorbing too.
If the resorption has not progressed too far and depending on what part of the tooth has resorbed, it may be possible for your dentist to treat it.
Some teeth with this condition eventually need to be extracted because there is not enough solid tooth structure to support a filling, crown, or root canal.
Tooth resorption usually is a very slow process and you may be able to wait a long time before treatment is needed.
Your dentist can help you determine the best treatment plan.
Luckily, we have implants now. while it is never good to lose a tooth, implants are ideal for replacing a single tooth.
Here is some additional information on tooth implants...
Thank you for writing.
Good Luck,
