Waterpik ultra dental water jet is now called Waterpik Flosser.
Why the name change? Teledyne Waterpik wants to reinforce the point that water flossing is a valid alternative to flossing the old fashioned way.
Could it be true? Yes and No.
If you hate to floss, refuse to floss, are not able to floss, or have
some other aversion to flossing then YES. Absolutely use an electric toothbrush or oral irrigator to improve your dental health.
For those who are already in the habit of using
dental floss
daily and have no signs of gum disease or dental concerns, no need to complicate your life with extra gadgets.
Studies show....
There's a study to support nearly every
dental care product,
most have an obvious agenda. Studies sited in Waterpik marketing materials claim their product removes plaque better than traditional dental floss. While this may be true for those with poor flossing skills
my experience makes me think otherwise for the faithful (but few) skilled users of dental floss.
Don't get me wrong, I love having another weapon in the constant battle against plaque aka dental biofilm. I know for a fact that many dental clients are looking for an alternative to dental floss and would benefit from using an oral irrigator.
It's not all about your teeth...
We are learning more all the time about the negative
effects of chronic inflammation that come with gum disease. Bleeding gums may not necessarily cause teeth to be lost, but gums that bleed everytime you brush, floss or get your teeth cleaned are bad for your health.
Some of my clients tell me: "my gums have always bled and they always will"
It's at least half true! Some gums bleed for a very long time without any obvious consequences.
However, there may be major consequences to their overall health. We now know: chronic inflammation could put you at risk for much more
serious health problems.
No longer are bleeding gums OK.
Thankfully, this part of the sentence: "they always will" doesn't have to be true.
You can stop gingivitis...
You have complete access to and control of your mouth. Unlike other parts of your body, you CAN control and eliminate gingivitis aka inflammation of your gums.
Why not take advantage of dental care products that will improve your health?
Is Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet for you?
How is dental floss working for you? Maybe you can relate...
She makes a good point but I still like string. Maybe there is room for both in your bathroom?
Here are some dental scenarios that would benefit from the use of a Waterpik ultra dental water jet:
Implants
-Dental Implants are the latest and greatest way to replace a missing tooth. They can replace a single tooth or be part or a bridge that replaces
several teeth. Implants are quite successfully used to add stability to dentures. But, their size and shape make them difficult to keep clean.
Braces
-Dental braces have to be the most challenging of all to keep clean! Unfortunately most orthodontic patients are teenagers who have so much
on their mind.
How to keep their braces clean is often last on their list.
Crowns
-Crowns are a great way to restore a broken tooth, strengthen a tooth that is cracked or has become brittle from a very large filling or root canal.
Because they have a margin or ridge where the crown meets tooth, crowns can be more difficult to clean.
Bridges
-A bridge is one way of replacing one or more teeth. Bridges have anchor teeth with replacement teeth and are fused together. They are impossible
to floss without threading
floss under the fused portion. Threading is tedious and often difficult.
Gum Disease
-gingivitis and more advanced gum disease require more time and effort to reverse. Any product that gently keeps plaque away from your gums will
make them healthier.
Receding Gums
-When gums recede the roots of the teeth are exposed. Because roots surfaces are not as hard as enamel they are more vulnerable to abrasive
toothpaste and brushing too hard. They are also more susceptible to tooth decay making thorough but gentle plaque removal even more important.
There are many dental clients that would benefit from using a Waterpik ultra dental water jet. Whether you choose a waterpik flosser or another dental care product, you CAN prevent chronic inflammation from gum disease.
