Red Swollen Gums

My gums are red and swollen.
I just got out of the hospital from a bout with diverticulitis and I notice that my gums are red, swollen and sometimes bleed when I brush them, can you tell me how to remedy this?
reply by Shelly ~ adminHi Sue, It's great that you are home from the hospital:) Luckily your gum problem should be much easier to solve than your diverticulitis…
There are a few possible reasons why your gums have reacted this way.
Some medicines dry your mouth and a dry mouth is harder to keep healthy. Here is more information about
dry mouth causes and cures. It is also quite possible and understandable that the illness and interruption in your daily routine messed up your regular good habits of brushing and flossing.
Now your gums are just letting you know they need your attention! If you are due for a cleaning and check - up, be sure to schedule an appointment. It is hard to improve the health of your gums if there is calculus aka tarter build up and you need a cleaning.
Don't worry, you should be able to turn the situation around with a little TLC for your sore swollen gums followed by some Listerine Mouthwash.
Gums that are red, swollen and bleed when you brush them have the condition called gingivitis.
It's very common and most often can be reversed with this simple
gingivitis treatment.Here's more
about Listerine. If the rinse is too strong for you at first, try diluting with water until you get used to it.
If you don't see any improvement in the way your gums look and feel after following the instructions found in the articles above, you should see your dentist. It is possible that your gums need further treatment to recover.
Hope this helps,
