Afraid of needles? You're not the only one! by: Anonymous
Hi there, Great question! Yes there are other ways to numb your gums, but to get the nerve of your tooth numb using a needle is still the best way.
Nobody likes getting a shot, but I think dental injections are better than getting a shot in your arm. You never see the needle and
your mouth is pre-numbed with a numbing gel so most of the time you don't even feel the needle going in.
One way to take the edge off your anxiety is to ask your dentist to use nitrous oxide before giving you the injection. You will be a lot more relaxed.
I know a few people who hate needles or just hate the feeling of being numb so much that they have their dental work done without anesthesia....I'm not that brave but if your cavities are very small, you could try it. Your dentist can get you numb at any point if you change your mind.
Most cavities don't hurt until they are big enough to need root canals. Don't wait til they hurt or you will be spending a lot more time and money at your dental office:(
Don't wait, make your appointment and keep it. You wont be sorry!
