How to Prevent Gingivitis
Gingivitis protection for every budget
How to prevent gingivitis? The answer is simple. Just keep plaque aka dental biofilm off your teeth and control contributing factors to this condition.
There are a few ways....
Brush and floss
It's amazing how much you can do with a toothbrush. So many don't use their toothbrush to its full potential:)
Just an
inexpensive toothbrush
can prevent gingivitis if used early, often, and with the right
brushing technique.
Don't get me wrong, I love all the fancy
electric toothbrushes
and oral irrigators. But,
if you like to keep
things simple, you can. Just become an expert at brushing, then do it longer and more otfen.
Sometimes a simple change
in your brushing style is all it takes to prevent or cure gingivitis.
Floss is another simple, but unpopular
answer to the question: how to prevent gingivitis? Flossing is not easy for some and impossible for others.
Here are some tips to make
flossing easier.
Ask your hygienist or dentist how you can improve your brushing and flossing.
Diet:
Avoid
sugar whenever possible. Sodas, sports drinks, energy drinks, and even fruit juices are high in
sugar and can be very acidic.
If you drink sugary drinks, drink them quickly instead of sipping all day. Better yet....just drink water.
Helpful products
Fluoride not only prevents cavities but stannous fluoride also slows the growth of gingivitis causing bacteria.
If you have gingivitis, look for stannous fluoride
in your mouthwash and toothpaste. Crest Pro Health products
have stannous fluoride.
Listerine Mouthwash doesn't taste good but kills the bacteria that cause gingivitis.
Fancy gadgets
An electric toothbrush is a great cure for gingivitis. Home remedies are a good cure for gingivitis. Brushing or rinsing with diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda,
or salt water. These are great for treating sore, bleeding gums but could be too strong to use everyday and are not needed for
daily prevention.
Electric toothbushes
provide extra cleaning power without
harming your teeth but still require good brushing technique.
Oral irrigators such as the
Teledyne Waterpik
can help cure gingivitis for those not able or who don't want to
use dental floss.
Waterpik flossers
work very well in certain situations.
There are alot of smaller and more affordable dental gadgets that help prevent and cure gingivitis. Floss threaders, super-floss,
proxa brushes, perio-aides, or just plain toothpicks can keep your teeth and gums healthy.
How to prevent gingivitis? You can keep it simple with just a toothbrush, floss and really good technique or let technology help you
fight the war against plaque. The choice is yours:)
