Dentist Review

Dentists ratings...how to read between the lines

Reading a dentist review can be helpful when trying to find a good dentist.... and avoid bad dentists.

However any dentist can get a few close friends or family to write some nice things about them.

How to you know if a review is reliable?

My years in the dental profession have taught me what to look for in a dentist review. Let me help you read between the lines...

When reading dentists ratings look for:

The G word...Gentle:) I love it when clients mention how gentle their dentist or hygienist is.

The two biggest concerns when searching for a dentist are pain and expense.

It's best to avoid pain in your mouth or your wallet. Prices vary in dentistry. Try to avoid either extreme...Most don't want the most expensive choice. A moderate to low cost dentist can be just as good.

dentist review A good dentist listens first, then explains everything clearly and gives treatment choices after listening to your concerns.

Cosmetic dentistry is great, but not everyone wants or needs a Hollywood smile. A good dentist is willing to customize treatment to match your goals.

A good dentist rating should mention the dental staff. More of your time will be spent with them than with the doctor.

If you are blessed with good teeth and never get a cavity, you may never see the dentist except for the couple minutes it takes to tell you everything looks great:)

A good dentist rating should include

  • Continuing education Most states require dentists to keep learning by attending classes throughout the year.
  • Community involvement and volunteerism Dentists who spend their time off providing dental care in another country or for those who need it in their community, are likely to be good people who love their profession and have a big heart for others.

Involvement in service organizations, coaching, or mentoring programs is another great sign.

  • dentist review
  • Includes the staff in their advertising material I tend to avoid dentists who only talk about themselves. Not many dentists work alone, but a surprising number don't mention their staff. Maybe they just forgot...or maybe they have a big ego or a high turn over rate...or both.

Good dentists want you to get to know and love their staff. A staff that has been with a dentist for many years is a vote of confidence that you can trust.

  • Military service or residency Many dentists have served in the military or completed a residency. Both are good ways to enhance their skills and provide valuable experience.
  • Mix of ages in the practice I like dental groups with both older and younger dentists and staff. These groups provide the best of both worlds by combining the latest dental techniques with years of experience.

I have applied these criteria when adding dentists to this site's dentist directory. Click on your state to see who is included.

What I thought was going to be 'doom and gloom' turned out to be very pleasant and hopeful; delivered in a non-judgemental, friendly format.

You have caused me to feel optimistic that I can turn things around."
