Dental bridge came off

My 3 tooth bridge came off and I see the tooth black and rotted. I have been complaining for a long time, spent over $20 grand.

So how did this not show on x-rays?

2 months ago, I had a scaling, etc. Is it possible the post in the bridge caused the tooth to rot?

Should I try to put the bridge back on until I get to a dentist?

I suspect 4 other teeth are also rotted under the crowns. I begged to have the crowns removed, but 3 dentists have refused, so I have been suffering.

Cannot understand how the films do not show rotted teeth.

Hi there, Sorry about your bridge, it sounds like you are very frustrated.

The fact that your tooth is dark may not mean it has decay. Teeth under crowns and bridges look dark because there is no enamel and the layer of tooth under your enamel is always darker.

If your tooth had a metal filling before you got the bridge it could be stained but not decayed.

Dental crowns and bridges many times have a layer of metal under the porcelin or tooth colored part of the crown. The metal adds strength to a crown or bridge. Unfortunately, metal is so hard that it stops dental xrays... so x rays don't show decay under a metal crown or bridge.

If the decay is at the margin where the crown or bridge meets the tooth, it's easier to see on an x ray.

For your comfort and peace of mind, the sooner you can get it check out, the better.

Hopefully it can just be recemented.

Hope that helps,
~Shelly~
