Dental Biofilm or Plaque?

Plaque appeared on one tooth at top recently, I never had it before, it's at the top of tooth and looks like my gums risen up.
I've had a very bad cough too what could this be?
Hi Bev, Dental plaque aka dental biofilm is usually not visible and is soft enough to be removed with your toothbrush.
What you see could be stain or calculus that would have to be removed by your dental hygienist.
If your gum has receded, it could also be a condition called abfraction. Gum recession and abfraction occur gradually so they are not noticed.
Most of us don't inspect our teeth everyday so it's easy to miss gradual changes... until one day you look closely and there it is.
Both abfraction and receded gums are the result of
clenching or grinding your teeth and or improper brushing.
Because your upper teeth are very close to your sinuses, having a cold can make your teeth feel more sensitive but shouldn't cause any permanent damage.
A quick trip to your dentist or hygienist will help you know for sure :)
