Could a waterpik damage teeth or loosen fillings?

I'm having problems since I started using it.

Hi Jane, Thanks for writing that is a really good question.

A WaterPik oral irrigator alone is not strong enough to loosen or remove fillings. But if your fillings are already starting to deteriorate or are slightly loose it could be the final straw that causes them to come out.

However, I wouldn't be worried about using a WaterPik. If your fillings are loose enough for the WaterPik to make them come out, they should be replaced.

Depending on their location in your mouth, some tooth colored fillings tend to come out easily and have to be replaced soon after they are done. This is because the tooth wasn't dry enough during the procedure. Most dentists will replace a filling that is less than a year old for no charge.

Be sure to follow the directions for using your WaterPik flosser and ask you hygienist if you have questions.

Thanks for writing,
~Shelly~
