Afraid of dentist, I have no pain tolerance what so ever....

(Newport, VT)

I currently have 3-5 teeth that need to be pulled but I refuse to go because I am terrified of the dentists.

Every time I go I get a needle shoved into the roof of my mouth and when he pulls the tooth out it feels like my nose is going to break. I don't scream or anything because I don't want to cause a scene but I always arrive and leave the Dentists office in tears.

I don't ever get the option of laughing gas or anything else to help me. Every time I go to the dentists I always throw up or feel like I'm going to pass out.

My dentist doesn't really have any sort of bedside manner. I'm trying to switch but there aren't any openings anywhere else.

what should I do? I refuse to go because the pain makes me physically ill everytime and I can't take it anymore....

Hi Salina, I'm sorry you have such severe dental phobia. You need something to help you get through your next dental visit. I would not keep going to your current dentist unless he can offer you something to help ease your anxiety.

You are not the only one to feel this way. The good news is, it's possible to have those teeth removed without pain or anxiety. Sedation dentistry would be a great option for you.

Here is more information about Sleep dentistry. Including one woman's account of how sedation helped her get much needed dental treatment done.

Once you know for sure that your teeth need to go, you shouldn't delay having them removed. Even if they are not causing you any pain, it is not good for your health to have teeth that are abscessed or infected in your mouth.

If your dentist doesn't have any suggestions for easing your anxiety, start calling, searching the internet, asking friends, and find someone who is understanding and able to provide the care that you need.

Hope that helps,
~Shelly~
